Another Fucking Wedding

A chronicle of two Brooklynites plodding toward their big day

Wedding favor

As far as I'm concerned, there was never any question that the wedding favor would be a mix CD. The only question was how we'd do a wedding CD that people don't hate.

I can't promise we've succeeded on that count, but at the very least we've avoided the trap of filling the CD with sappy, excruciating cliches (if not goofy, excruciating novelties). Instead, we picked a theme -- The Best and Worst of Coupledom -- and selected songs about henpecked husbands, wife-beaters, and cheaters, as well as several sweetly romantic favorites.

Here are lo-res versions of the songs. (I'd put the whole thing up but am afraid of getting hammered with a server bill.)

THE BEST AND WORST OF COUPLEDOM

2    Roy C - Shotgun Wedding
3    Arthur Alexander - I Want To Marry You
4    Clarence Frogman Henry - I Don't Know Why I Love You

7    Hank Penny - Catch 'em Young, Treat 'em Rough, Tell 'em Nothing
8    Thelma Baxter - Henry
9    Mable John - Don't Hit Me No More
10    The Innovations - Stay on the Case
11    Irma Thomas - Don't Mess with My Man

13    Dorothy Shay - It's the Little Things That Count
14    Lotte Lenya & Jack Gilford - It Couldn't Please Me More (a Pineapple) [See earlier post]
